RV care

Work out what kind of RV repair you need

A damp patch, broken fitting and failed fridge may all need repair, but they lead to different investigations. Start with immediate risk, then record what happened and choose help suited to the actual structure or system.

Deal with immediate risk first

Stop using equipment where there are signs of gas leakage, CO, burning or overheating. Loose or damaged structure may affect road safety. Seek appropriate emergency or specialist help before continuing use; collecting photographs comes after keeping people safe.

Match the symptom to a repair area

Rain-related staining or softness points toward moisture assessment. An impact or cracked panel needs bodywork evaluation, including weatherproofing. An appliance fault needs its model and operating mode identified. One incident can involve more than one specialist area.

Prepare for assessment

Record dates, conditions, error messages and previous work. Take useful photographs where safe and note whether a symptom changes with weather or power source. Avoid dismantling unfamiliar equipment merely to produce more information.

Agree the repair scope

Ask what diagnosis, access and follow-up are included. Hidden damage can change the scope once work begins, so agree how additional findings will be discussed. Keep written estimates and a record of completed work and remaining questions.

Questions you might still have

Can one fault affect several systems?

Yes. A leak can affect structure or electrics, and supply problems can change appliance behaviour. Investigate the relationship instead of assuming unrelated failures.

Should I keep using an appliance that repeatedly stops?

Do not keep resetting an appliance with a recurring fault or danger signs. Follow permitted user guidance and seek appropriate diagnosis.

What should I send to a repair specialist?

Provide vehicle and appliance details, photographs, symptoms, conditions and previous work. Explain any urgent safety issue first.
